Mental Health For All: Mental Health Day 2020

Global Mental Health day is celebrated on the 10th of October every year worldwide since 1992 to promote global mental health education, awareness, advocacy against the social stigma that is often attached to it. Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

You shouldn’t be ashamed… It’s not a taboo!

"What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candour, and more unashamed conversation.” Glenn Close

People are often scared or ashamed to accept that they need help. There are so many stigmas, Myths & disbeliefs around mental health which makes it even harder for a person who needs help.

·         Mental health is not a fancy trend.

·         It is not a choice, Nobody chooses to be unwell.

·         It’s not an excuse.

·         It is not an act of seeking attention.

·          it’s not always visible.

That’s why we should be more understandable, more educated, more careful, more open & most importantly a lot more kind to each other. We need to be less judgemental & more acceptable for everyone. A single word of yours can affect negatively affect someone for years or even a lifetime.

You don’t have to be positive all the time…

You don’t have to be positive all the time. It’s perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, frustrated, scared & anxious. Having feelings doesn’t make you a negative person. It makes you human.” Lori Deschene

We are living in a world where everyone is pressured to be perfect & to live a perfect life through the lens of social media. Constant comparing, judging, Lower self-esteem & trying so hard to meet social standards which often leads to unsatisfied & self-suffering lives. We are often told to be positive all the time because It is a piece of Universal wisdom that our thoughts create our own reality & our thoughts, words and actions are all positive in order to return us with positive results.

Even though there is nothing wrong with that philosophy, the constant pressure of being positive can make us fall into a trap where we deny how we feel & hide our true feelings.

Being yourself is more important than being positive...

Instead of avoiding or hiding a negative thought, accept it, feel it and allow it to pass. That way you will find your inner peace & quality of your life & mental health will be improved.

There is always a hope…

“There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.” - John Green

Healing takes time and asking for help is a courageous step.

If you are dealing with issues that you haven't spoken to anyone about, it is the right time to open up and seek help. You are not a burden! Together, let’s break this social stigma!
