30th Rotaract District Assembly

District Assembly is not just a place where all Rotaractors from across the country gathers to appreciate the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of Rotaractors from the previous year, but also a place where they welcome the new District Rotaract Representative and his steering committee for the new Rotaract year.

Marking the end of the Rotaract year 2019-20 and the dawn of a new Rotaract year, the 30th Rotaract District Assembly was held on the 4th of July, 2020 at the Golden Rose Hotel, Boralesgamuwa with the participation of over 70 Rotaract clubs from the District 3220.

You all will agree if I say 2020 is definitely a year full of new experiences! With the prevailing situation of the country caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as a society, we all have tried our best to adjust to this new normal. Rotaractors being the change-makers of that society, did not forget to improvise and adjust! That is exactly the reason why this District Rotaract Assembly will always be remembered!

With the safety measures taken by the Sri Lankan Government to limit the crown in gatherings, only 500+ Rotaractors could join this event.  However, thanks to it being streamed online, there was absolutely nothing the ones staying home could miss!

The outgoing DRR, Rtr PP Krishan Balaji officially signed off with an extremely emotional speech that left the crowd in tears. As always, he reminded the fellow Rotaractors to believe in themselves and to add more memories to their Rotaract journies.

Rtr PP Kavindra Kasun Sigera was then collared as the District Rotaract Representative for the year 2020-21 and Rtr PP Kayalvili Mathavaram was appointed as the District Representative Secretary. The new District Steering Committee was announced afterwards. Mid Citians were extremely delighted by the appointment of Rtr Teruni Perera to the District Steering Committee as a Coordinator for the District PR team. We are immensely proud of her achievements and we wish her all the very best!

Mid Citians receiving the District Citation for the year 2019-20 was an extreme honour to the club. Members of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid City who were a part of District Projects were also appreciated. This included Rtr Dinu Induwara and Rtr Tharusha Jayasundara for being a part of the District Green Team and Rtr Sanduni Edirimanne for being a part of Future Leaders. Rtr Teruni Perera received two recognitions; Spirit of Service Award and appreciation for being a PR Advocate. Rtr Milan Smahon received an award of appreciation towards his contribution towards district PR team. The cluster project, 'Altitude'- which we were a part of, received the Silver award for the 'Most Outstanding Cluster Initiative.' Apart from that, President for the month of February was secured by Rtr PP Lasitha Chanduka. We believe that these little tokens of appreciation will be an enormous inspiration for us to move forward to do greater things!

The crowd was entertained by several artists. 'Blaze'- an upcoming group of beatboxers entertained the crowd with their killer performance. The Watalappan Band did a great job as well! Bathiya Jayakody, who was also the keynote speaker of the day made a motivational speech, and also sang for us! We thank all of them for making all Rotaractors go cray-cray!

And that is how the Rotaract District Assembly went! Seeing the challenges, taking the risks and improvising according to the situation are what makes Rotaractors special. This event was yet another moment that proved the same, the whole Rotaract community will agree- I'm sure!

We wish all the very best for our new DRR and his steering committee for a wonderful year ahead and we look forward to work along with the District 3220 to create the change we want in the world. Let us Strive As One!
