ROTARACT CLUB OF COLOMBO MID CITY
WHAT DO WE DO?
1. We Promote Peace
We are fascinated by the diversity among the people around the
world. We love to learn about all cultures, ethnicity, and religions across
the globe and we appreciate each of them. As Rotaractors, we work as a
connecting tissue among different communities. Our work includes training
adults and the young to prevent and mediate conflicts that can lead to wars and
helping refugees who have fled out of their homelands for safety.
2. We fight disease
There are 400 million people in the world who can't afford or
don't have access to proper health care. We believe good health is everyone's
right. Hence, treating and preventing diseases is equally important. We as
Rotaractors, reach the undeserved communities by setting up temporary clinics,
blood donation centers, and building infrastructure. Our members combat
diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and
polio. Prevention of such diseases is equally important. Hence, we educate and
equip societies, especially by uplifting their health education.
3. We providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
How do we survive without water? Unluckily, many people out there
do not have access to clean drinking water. Lack of clean water results in many
waterborne diseases and that deteriorates health. Through water, sanitation,
and hygiene (WASH) programs, we do not simply build wells and vanish. We
mobilize resources, form partnerships, and invest in infrastructure and
training that yield long-term change.
4. We save mothers and children
An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each
year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation. All
these factors are preventable. That is the reason why Rotary's people conduct
programs to make mothers aware of how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV
transmission, how to breastfeed, and how to protect themselves and their
children from disease. We also provide education, immunizations, birth kits,
and mobile health clinics.
5. We support education
17% of the world population is illiterate. Our goal is to
strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy,
reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
6. We support Local Economics
When the world is developing at a fast rate, people are surviving
in less than $ 1.90 a day. Sustainable solutions have to be brought up to
eliminate poverty. As an effort towards zero poverty, our foundation work supports
local entrepreneurs and growing leaders. We provide them with training and
access to well-paying jobs and financial management institutions.
We are community-builders,
We are problem-solvers,
We are people of action,
We make a difference here in the homeland and around the world.
You can find us anywhere.
So what are you waiting for? Be a part of our journey!
Viva La Rotaract!
