31ST MID CITY INSTALLATION

The 31st Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid City successfully concluded on the 29th of July, at the Royal Skill Center, Colombo. The ceremony commenced with lighting the oil lamp after the arrival of the chief guest, the Rotarian Past President Kingsley Jayalath and the other dignitaries. The oil lamp, a unique creation by a fellow Rotaractor caught everyone’s attention.

The president was handed over the gavel and the District Rotaract Representative, Krishan Balaji was collared after the Sergeant-at-arms called the house to order. The presence of the dignitaries at the head tables, Rotarians, past DRRs and parents were then recognized.

The formalities began by singing the National anthem and the Rotaract song. The project chairperson Dakshith Dias welcomed the audience to the Installation ceremony of Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid City. Outgoing Secretary, Milan Smahon then presented the Secretary’s report for the year 2018/19. In his speech he highlighted the projects and the services completed during his year using an attractive presentation supported by pictures and video clips.

Then came the speech of the Immediate past president, Mohamed Azeem. He took the opportunity to share his Rotaract story and how it added so many experiences, memories and benefits to his life. He thanked the fellow Board of Directors and the members who contributed to the betterment of the Rotaract family through all ups & downs and awarded them a token of appreciation followed by his speech.

Rotaract past president Hedira Keshawa stole the attention of the audience to introduce the incoming president of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid City, Lasitha Chanduka. Lasitha then made a speech where he introduced the new Board of Directors for the year 2019/20.

Next on the agenda was a special event. To mark the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid City’s 31st year, the club blog and a Youtube channel was launched, creating an online platform where the members can showcase their skills. Up next was the address by DRR PP Krishan Balaji and the Guest of Honor, Mr. Dhanushka Kodikara. Followed by their speeches was a singing performance by two of the fellow Rotaractors, Uvindu Jayasinghe and Rameen Fonseka that made the audience sing along with them.

Then came the speech of the Chief Guest, Rotarian Past President Kingsley Jayalath. Followed by his speech the invitees were presented an eco-friendly notebook as token of appreciation. This emphasized the ‘Go-Green’ concept and the importance of protecting the world as Rotaractors are ‘people of action’.

The 31st Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid City was concluded after the felicitation and the vote of thanks delivered by the newly appointed Secretary for the year 2019/20, Teruni Perera.
